Waves Ahead Spring Conference - The Future of our High Streets

This week I was honoured to be invited to sit on a Q&A panel at the Waves Ahead Spring Conference, organised by the Adur and Worthing Business Partnership.

With the nature of Adur and Worthing’s town centres changing the Waves Ahead Spring Conference 2019 focused on the action needed to create and maintain thriving high streets. It featured local, national and international perspectives, including an inspiring talk by keynote speaker Bill Grimsey. Bill spoke at length about the steps we all need to be taking to ensure the survival of our high streets in the changing times we live in. There was a focus on community and social activities and lots of food for thought for both the council and individual traders.

I was invited to speak about the recent work done by the Southwick Traders Association, which I am a member of, who are striving to achieve just this. Our recent Christmas and Spring Events have been hugely successful and have brought people into the area of Southwick Square and Southwick Green, showcasing the fantastic community we are so lucky to be a part of. I also commented on how well supported we have been by Adur and Worthing Council since forming the association.

As a small, independent business owner I am, of course, concerned about the future as we all face uncertainty on our high streets. But this event left me feeling positive and optimistic about what I can do to ensure Southwick Square and, in turn, my own business continues to thrive.
